National Cat Health Month
February is National Cat Health Month. That means it is time to check in with your floofy besties and make sure they are feeling good. Here are a few ideas of how you can keep your cat in tip-top shape, not just in February, but year-round.
Schedule Your Cat’s Annual Checkup. Getting your cat into the vet is a great way to celebrate this month! If your kitty hasn’t had an annual checkup yet, now is the purr-fect time to schedule. These visits are vital to keeping your cat happy and healthy.
Keep Your Kitty’s Vaccinations Up-to-Date. Along with getting your feline friend a check-up, make sure their vaccines are up to date. Current vaccines and deworming help prevent diseases that can be contracted from the environment or other cats.
Spay or Neuter Your Cat. Spaying and neutering your cat is not just the responsible thing to do, it is vital for their health. Unaltered cats are at a greater risk for certain cancers and female cats are at risk for unwanted pregnancies and any complications that may arise. Did you know that Roice-Hurst has a spay and neuter program for cats in 81501? To learn more about our Grand Valley Cat Project, please visit our website.
Keep Your Cat’s Teeth Healthy. Did you know National Cat Health Month coincides with Pet Dental Health Month? February is a great time to look into getting your cat’s teeth cleaned. Keeping their teeth cleaned not only helps them have shiny chompers, but it keeps them healthy. Cat mouths have bacteria that if left untreated can cause issues with their mouth, teeth, and organs. Remember to ask your vet about implementing a brushing routine for their teeth.
Feed Your Pet a High-Quality Diet. Part of keeping our fur babies healthy is feeding them a good diet. Giving them quality food gives them the appropriate nutrients they need. It is also encouraged to feed them canned food at least once a day to help them keep hydrated as cats prefer to get most of their water from their food. Keep in mind that Roice-Hurst does have a Pet Pantry if you ever find yourself struggling to provide food for your cat companion. Learn more here.
Keep Your Kitty Active. Playtime not only keeps your cat active, but it is a great way to experience one of the many joys of cat ownership. If you’re not quite sure what type of play your cat enjoys, Roice-Hurst also has resources on our website and a cat behaviorist that can guide you. Click here to discover ways to engage your cat.
Celebrate Your Furry Friends. What better way to bond with your healthy cat than to spend time together. Many people are under the impression that cats enjoy solitude. In fact, most cats do enjoy companionship, just on their terms. Spend time with your cat by playing, brushing them, and cuddling. This not only gives them mental stimulation to keep them healthy, it helps you connect with them on a deeper level.
