Supporting Pet Families Facing Food Insecurity

Beginning November 1, SNAP benefits will be paused for more than 11,000 households in Mesa County and 3,500 households in Delta County, leaving many families to navigate sudden food insecurity. Because two in three families include a pet, this pause means many households may face the difficult choice between feeding their pets or feeding themselves.

Roice-Hurst Humane Society’s Pet Pantry is here to help. Our Pet Pantry provides free pet food and supplies to anyone in need, ensuring that pets can remain cared for at home with the families who love them. All items donated to the Pet Pantry are distributed directly back into the hands of our community. Support is available while supplies last at our locations in Grand Junction (362 28 Rd.) and Delta (720 W. 4th St.).

Where to Find Help

• To access the Pet Pantry, visit Roice-Hurst Humane Society during our open hours (Tuesday–Sunday from 12–4pm in Grand Junction, and 12-4pm Monday-Friday and 12-3pm Saturday-Sunday in Delta). To speed up your visit, complete the Pet Pantry form ahead of time.

How You Can Help

We expect to see increased demand for our Pet Pantry in the weeks ahead, and we need our community’s support to ensure supplies remain available to those who need them. If you’re able to help, here’s how:

• Donate supplies: Drop off Pet Pantry food and supplies inside of the Donation Station shed in our parking lot or with our partners at Discovery Auto Group (2490 US-6 and 50), any ANB Bank location, and Casa de Pets (bring a bag of food to receive a grooming discount!). Our most-needed Pet Pantry items are dry dog food, dry cat food, wet and dry kitten food, reusable bags, and blankets.
  

• Shop our Amazon Wishlist: Order items to be shipped directly to the shelter.
  

• Support human food banks: Consider donating to or volunteering with local food banks.
  

• Give a monetary donation to our Animal Resource Center: Your contribution helps us purchase high-demand Pet Pantry supplies we may not have enough of on hand. You can make a donation below. Thank you!
