Grand Junction, Colo. – Roice-Hurst Humane Society has partnered with Best Friends Animal Society to pilot Spanish Saturdays, a new initiative to improve access to pet adoption and assistance for Spanish speakers. The first Spanish Saturday will be held on Saturday, December 20 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Roice-Hurst Humane Society.
Spanish Saturdays will be held every third Saturday of each month. During which, a Spanish interpreter will be present at the shelter to facilitate pet meet and greets, adoptions, pet resource assistance, and any other pet-related matters that community members wish to discuss in Spanish.
This initiative is supported by Best Friends Animal Society’s Bring Love Home Challenge, a nationwide effort to help more cats and dogs find homes. Roice-Hurst Humane Society is joining nearly 300 animal shelters and rescue groups across the country to address the critical need for increased pet adoptions by piloting data-backed changes to help more pets get adopted.
“The love and companionship of a pet transcends language barriers,” Zebulon Miracle, Roice-Hurst Humane Society CEO, said. “Our goal is to make pet adoption accessible to everyone, and we saw this partnership with Best Friends Animal Society as an excellent opportunity to improve how we serve our Spanish-speaking community here in the Grand Valley.”
As part of the initiative, many Roice-Hurst resources, applications, and materials will also be available in Spanish.
“We selected Roice-Hurst Humane Society for the Bring Love Home Challenge because of their commitment to making adoptions more accessible in their community and helping more cats and dogs find the homes they need and deserve,” said Whitney Bollinger, Director of Strategy & Network Operations at Best Friends Animal Society.
