Spay/Neuter Assistance

The best way to prevent crowded shelters and pet overpopulation is to spay or neuter your pet. If you have a pet that has not been spayed or neutered and you aren’t able to afford the full cost of a spay/neuter procedure at your regular veterinarian, please fill out the form below to see if you qualify for a low-cost spay/neuter procedure performed at Roice-Hurst Humane Society.
If our surgery schedule is full, we may be able to provide a voucher for a discounted spay/neuter surgery at one of our partner vet clinics. Surgery spots and vouchers are limited.
Please submit the form below. You can expect to be contacted within 48 hours Monday-Friday. Questions? Please contact our Animal Resource Center Coordinator at 970-434-7337 ext. 103 or

  • A limited number of spay/neuter surgery appointments performed at Roice-Hurst Humane Society and spay/neuter vouchers redeemable at other local vet clinics are available on a first-come, first-served basis for pet owners who qualify based on financial need. After the monthly limit is reached, applicants may be added to a waiting list.
  • ON-SITE SURGERIES: We have partnered with local veterinarians to provide spay/neuter surgeries on-site at Roice-Hurst Humane Society at a subsidized rate. Currently, our fees for on-site surgeries are: $45 for male cat neuters, $60 for female cat spays, $100 for male dog neuters, and $120 for female dog spays. A deposit is required to hold your pet’s surgery spot ($45 for cats, $50 for dogs). Once the deposit is received and a waiver is signed, your surgery spot is confirmed. Please come prepared to pay the remaining balance at the time of surgery. Additional services, like vaccinations or microchipping, are available for an additional discounted rate.
  • VOUCHERS: For owned dogs and cats, a limited number of vouchers for $30 off a spay/neuter surgery are available for low-income pet owners. Surgery may be performed at Animal Birth Control, Palisade Pet Care, Clifton Animal Hospital, or Footprints Animal Hospital in Mesa County or at Grand Mesa Veterinary Hospital in Delta. If you would prefer to use your regular veterinarian for the procedure, please contact your veterinarian directly to see if they accept our vouchers. We can issue up to 6 vouchers for owned pets per household due to Mesa County pet ownership regulations.
  • VOUCHERS: For feral/community cats, we can provide a voucher for $35 off of a spay surgery or $25 off of a neuter surgery performed at Animal Birth Control. You will be responsible for covering any remaining balance. There is no limit to the number of vouchers we can issue for community cats.
  • Our spay/neuter appointments and vouchers are a resource for pet owners who can’t afford to have their pet spayed or neutered by their regular veterinarian at full price. Please reserve this resource for those who are not currently in a financial position to cover the full cost of a spay/neuter surgery.
  • Humane cat traps are available to borrow by request.
