Grand Junction, CO – Roice-Hurst Humane Society has selected local nonprofit leader, Zebulon Miracle, as its new Chief Executive Officer. Miracle will take the leash on June 17.
Miracle has served as the Executive Director of United Way of Mesa County since 2020 and carries an impressive background in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, relationship-building and innovative problem-solving in western Colorado. He holds a Master of Arts in Leadership and Administration and previously served in high-level roles at Gateway Canyons Resort and Museums of Western Colorado.
“We are delighted to welcome Zebulon Miracle as the new CEO of Roice-Hurst Humane Society,” said Matt Bell, co-chair of the Roice-Hurst Humane Society Board of Directors. “Zebulon’s passion for our mission and this community, coupled with his proven leadership abilities, positions him as the ideal leader to guide our efforts in promoting the enduring bonds between pets and their people.”
Already a friend of Roice-Hurst, Miracle understands the powerful connection between pets and community wellness. As CEO, he will play a pivotal role in advancing Roice-Hurst’s innovative programs that create, promote and preserve bonds between pets and their loving families. Miracle will lead strategic initiatives related to excellence in animal care, pet owner support, population control and prevention of suffering, community health, stewardship and industry leadership.

Miracle’s hire follows the departure of former CEO, Anna Stout, who led Roice-Hurst for nine years and pioneered the organization’s people-centric animal welfare model.
“I have worked closely with Zebulon in his role at United Way of Mesa County on several projects over the years, including big-picture projects that are focused on strengthening our whole nonprofit ecosystem in our community,” Anna Stout, former CEO of Roice-Hurst Humane Society, said. “Zeb is a visionary thinker and understands the correlation between community health and animal welfare, which is core to the innovative programs Roice-Hurst provides to our community. Roice-Hurst’s mission and team mean so much to me, and I know that the organization is in trusted, capable hands under Zebulon’s leadership.”
